Introducing the 2022-23 Sanford Journal of Public Policy

Introducing the 2022-23 Sanford Journal of Public Policy

Hey folks, it's Rebecca Tyus, Nate Schwartzbauer, and Ari Panzer - the Co-Editors in Chief of the Sanford Journal of Public Policy (SJPP) for 2022-2023. We are thrilled to lead the journal’s efforts this year and look forward to elevating student voices at Sanford.

So what is the mission of SJPP? We are an online publication focused on exploring timely social issues and pragmatic public policy solutions. We rely on students' existing and developing policy skills to generate thoughtful, productive conversations aimed at sparking impactful changes. We seek to reflect Sanford's diverse student body with their unique perspectives, and welcome multiple viewpoints on important societal issues. As a result, the SJPP platform not only broadens our cohort's understanding of policy topics, but provides students a chance to sharpen their writing skills and see their work published.

TLDR, we are a space for students to discuss, propose, critique, and publish policy-related content.

Over the course of the year, we will be hosting brainstorming events, publishing timely articles based on current events, and publishing pieces students write for classes. We welcome all policy-relevant submissions from Sanford graduate and undergraduate students. Have an existing piece or an idea but not sure where to take it? We would love to work with you!

Publishing with the Journal involves three simple steps:

  1. Submit your piece using our online submission form

  2. Two SJPP editors will provide edits within a week

  3. Revise and resubmit along with an image we can use as a thumbnail

We are supported by a wonderful Executive Team that includes:

  • Robert Newman and Tim Lindsey as Finance and Event Coordinators

  • David Amanfu as the Communication and Member Engagement Lead

  • Sara Israelsen-Hartley as the Website and Publication Manager

Frank Bruni, a New York Times columnist, bestselling author, and Sanford professor will serve as SJPP’s faculty advisor.

We are excited to read and publish the amazing work of our fellow students this year!
